Once a year sunset, Sydney

Once a year sunset, Sydney

During the days surrounding the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, the sun sets a few minutes before the Pylon lookout closes at 5pm. It's only at this time of the year you're able to capture a sunset over Sydney, Australia, from this vantage point. Things came together one fine winters afternoon this week when finally we got some good weather and the sky put on a show! With my camera tripod perched in the very corner of the lookout, I shot a series of panoramic shots that allowed me to share this stunning vista from Kirribilli in the north-east side of the harbour to Balmain and the western suburbs. It's also the best location to watch the traffic flowing in and out of the city at peak hour, even the ferry boats get in on the action.
